The Edison Polygon, located in Monterrey close to the OXXO headquarters, encloses eight neighborhoods with high marginalization rates. There are at least seven schools under poor conditions in this zone teaching more than 2,000 children. The Edison Polygon initiative was born out of the commitment of FEMSA Comercio to contribute to improve the quality of life of the surrounding community. It seeks to provide tools to solve social and economic problems, to encourage citizen participation, and to promote comprehensive human development and environmental sustainability. FEMSA Foundation participates in the initiative with Healthy Edison Polygon, which takes nutrition education to the schools in the area.

Healthy, everyone!

We conducted workshops on health and nutrition matters in seven schools in the area to promote healthy eating and physical activity among children, their parents, and teachers.

Our work is dedicated to train parents and teachers so they can reinforce the information in the classroom and at home, fostering a behavioral change toward healthier practices. The adults take part in the improvement of the school environment to achieve healthy settings by painting classrooms and murals as well as installing drinking fountains. In addition to the educational workshops on topics such as health, nutrition and physical activity, the children participate in fairs, hydration campaigns and school health clubs.

“The teachers of the Polygon implemented a challenge to encourage us to stay hydrated. The winner is the classroom that drank most water.”
