Our most recent exhibition at MARCO
As part of the FEMSA Cultural Program initiatives, we joined the Museum of Contemporary Art of Monterrey (MARCO, by its Spanish acronym), to present the exhibition entitled The material order of things. A reading of the FEMSA Collection. It is an approach to the evolution, plurality and richness that the FEMSA Collection has, through the artistic manifestations that have transcended in Latin America during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
This is our third collaboration with MARCO to present exhibitions of contemporary art in the city of Monterrey. On this occasion, Daniel Garza Usabiaga, who was in charge of the curatorship, proposed to promote a better understanding of the relationship between the world of things and the artistic work. For this reason, the exhibition focuses on the presence of everyday objects in artistic products as a reference, mainly through its physical presence.
On the night of October 24, we opened this exhibition at the headquarters of MARCO, which was attended by collaborators of both organizations, members of the museum and guests of other cultural institutions. “It is a great honor for us to present the exhibition in the city that saw both, our company and our Collection, be born, and we are deeply proud to do so in MARCO, a magnificent space that has been a meeting place for great artists, magnificent works and a regular audience,” said Rosa María Rodríguez Garza, Manager of the FEMSA Cultural Program.
The exhibition, which is already being presented at MARCO until February 16, 2020, brings together 68 pieces by 58 artists in various formats such as painting, sculpture, video and installation. Likewise, we presented for the first time one of the most recent acquisitions of the FEMSA Collection: “Flores en el campo” (Flowers in the Field) (1915), by Mexican artist Saturnino Herrán. Also, works by artists such as Frida Kahlo, María Izquierdo, Mathias Goeritz, Liliana Porter, Gabriel Orozco and Francis Alÿs, among many others, are being exhibited.
