A comprehensive vision of the nexus between water, energy and food

On February 13th, we met with experts in natural resources management and sustainable development in a series of workshops that we organized together with the Inter-American Development Bank and Tecnológico de Monterrey, through the Water Center for Latin America and the Caribbean, to evolve towards a focus on the nexus between water, energy and food.

We are facing a variety of complex challenges regarding water, energy and food security with the increasing need for more integral solutions in Latin America and the Caribbean. The focus on water-energy-food tackles contact and impact points that are shared among sectors. It also helps accomplish economic, environmental and social long-term goals in any region and worldwide. For this reason, we got together with consultants, specialists from the University of California Davis, Stanford University and University of Oregon, the World Resources Institute (WRI), Water Foundry, among other organizations to prepare and begin the transformation process.

From February 12th to the 14th, in addition to a forum open to the public, we organized several working sessions to establish a common definition of the most relevant elements that make up the nexus, to identify ways to approach it and to set up the bases for the new long-term strategy of the Center.
