CLOSING THE GAPS AND BOOSTING OPPORTUNITIES
Early Childhood Development Innovation Fund
CHILDREN THAT ARE BROUGHT UP IN POOR HOUSEHOLDS DURING THEIR EARLY YEARS HAVE FEWER CHANCES TO DEVELOP OR HARNESS THEIR FULL POTENTIAL. OVER TIME, IT’S HARDER AND MORE EXPENSIVE TO CLOSE THE GAPS REGARDING DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING AMONG CHILDREN FROM MORE OR LESS POOR HOUSEHOLDS.

General Objective
Finance, design, implement and evaluate innovative and scalable solutions that improve the lives of children in the most disadvantaged communities in Latin America.
In November, we launched the Early Childhood Development Fund. It’s a collaborative effort that will seek the most effective innovative and scalable solutions to promote the overall development of children under the age of 5.
In the first phase of the Fund we will stimulate 6 projects in 5 countries:
- BRAZIL We will measure the impacts on a medium-term in order to amplify low-income children’s access to child care centers.
- BRAZIL We will evaluate a model that integrates health services and activities that strengthen parental skills.
“We believe that to develop children is to develop society. This Fund will allow us to achieve the goal of testing and creating public policies with impact in order to guarantee this development.“
Eduardo C. de Queiroz
CHAIRMAN OF FUNDAÇÃO MARIA CECILIA SOUTO VIDIGAL
- COLOMBIA We will support the redesign and the evaluation of the Family Modality in regards to the attention to early childhood.
- ECUADOR We will implement and evaluate a program to improve preschool teachers’ practices.
- EL SALVADOR We will develop and evaluate models to improve children’s development (that are raised by their grandparents).
- PERU We will evaluate the medium-term impact of the Cuna Más program.
The Fund is an opportunity to close gaps during the first years of childhood and to contribute to the children’s better future.
