COME FOR WATER IN MEXICO AND COLOMBIA
Come for Water – Mexico
After the earthquakes hit the south of Mexico in September, we stopped measuring the distance between communities in kilometers and decided to shorten the distance through a joint effort.
A state of emergency needed an inmediate response to supply safe water to the hindered communities in Oaxaca. Boarding the Ven por Agua with the support of Solistica, we arrived in Oaxaca, Mexico. With the mobile treatment plants on board, we delivered more than 190,111 liters of safe water in Tehuantepec where we were supported by local government and by other organizations to distribute roughly 4,500 demijohns.
We also arrived in Ixtaltepec with Coca-Cola FEMSA and its mobile treatment plant ISUZU. We handed out water in the municipality and also took it to Juchitán with Eólica Sur volunteers; we managed to hand out over 4,900 demijohns.
The best way to reduce impact when facing a natural disaster is to be prepared. With the Mobile Water Treatment Plants, we shorten distances and work with affected communities to help them get back on their feet and move forward.
Come for Water – Columbia
On April 1st, the intense rain provoked the flooding of the Mocoa, Mulato and Sancoyaco rivers. The strength of the currents and mud avalanches that were associated to the flooding and it hindered lots of people.
Water supply is crucial in a situation like this. With Cruz Roja Colombia, we arrived in Mocoa, Putumayo’s capital on board of our mobile treatmnet plant to provide access to residents after the natural disaster hampered the region.
We distributed over 1 million liters of safe water (the equivalent is 56,820 demijohns). Nonetheless, on May 14th we left the hindered zone after weather conditions hampered our mobile treatment plants.
